Published: 15 March 2021

East Renfrewshire Council today (Monday 15 March) finalised its budget for the year ahead and outlined the major capital projects which will be progressed.

At a previous council meeting, it was agreed that Council Tax would be frozen for 2021/22.

And at today's meeting detailed spending plans and a range of capital projects were confirmed.

The council faced a remaining budget gap of £3.5m and details of how these savings will be met were confirmed today.

The spending plans outlined highlighted the ongoing commitment to delivering major capital projects, despite the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Four new nurseries have already opened as part of the council's plans to almost double the amount of free early learning and childcare provision to 1140 hours.

Future capital projects include the development of a new leisure centre for Eastwood, which will include three new pools and space for other sports, a new theatre, library and gym.

Other projects being progressed are replacements for Neilston Primary, St Thomas's Primary and Madras Family Centre, a further extension to Crookfur Primary, a new all-weather pitch and athletics track at Mearns Castle High School, and building 310 new council houses in the next four years.
