The back lanes behind Main Street are set to be given a much needed makeover including artwork inspired by pupils at Thornliebank Primary school. Solar lighting will light up dark areas of pathway with new trees, planting and fencing added. Thorntree Hall will be made more accessible with the addition of a new staircase and a universally accessible ramp.
Thornliebank is still very much open for business during these improvement works with access to local businesses and properties maintained throughout. Work is expected to be complete early in the new year by contractor Mackenzie Construction.
Council Leader Owen O'Donnell said: "It's fantastic news that we've been able to secure funding to enable these improvements for Thornliebank. I'm looking forward to seeing the completed project, especially the public art by local Thornliebank primary school pupils."
The work is being funded by the UK Government's UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
