A bold new vision has been launched which sets out the shared hopes and aspirations for East Renfrewshire between now and 2040.

A Place to Grow is East Renfrewshire Community Planning Partnership's new strategic vision to set the area on a course where everyone in East Renfrewshire can flourish, thrive and grow.

The 15-year vision looks beyond immediate challenges and outlines how residents and partners can make the most of our strengths and assets and work together for the continued success of East Renfrewshire.

Councillor Owen O'Donnell, the leader of East Renfrewshire Council, said: 'We remain ambitious for the future of East Renfrewshire and want to achieve even more for our residents. A Place to Grow sets out a vision of how we can work together to deliver an even better future. It is absolutely right that we have a vision for East Renfrewshire's long-term future which looks beyond short-term challenges and delivers on our ambitions. I warned in October that the council is facing significant financial challenges for 2025/26 as a result of years of real-terms cuts in funding from government. This means the council is facing very difficult decisions which are likely to impact the services we deliver to the public. We will manage our way through these challenges responsibly and it is vital that at the same time we look to the future and plan for new opportunities. A Place to Grow will help us plan for a brighter future and to work with residents and partners on shaping an even better East Renfrewshire in the years to come.'

A Place to Grow is built on three pillars: a future where our children and young people flourish; where our communities and places thrive; and where we all live well.

It is rooted in shared ambitions and will evolve and keep pace with a changing world and the people and communities who make up East Renfrewshire.

The vision has been developed by the Community Planning Partnership from talking and listening to local communities, local businesses, council employees and public and third sector partners.

These conversations will continue and will include further community engagement events in the new year where more joint working will be done on shaping a brighter future for East Renfrewshire.

East Renfrewshire Community Planning Partnership is made up of a range of public bodies that work together and with communities. East Renfrewshire Council, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Strathclyde Partnership for Transport, West College Scotland, East Renfrewshire Health and Social Care Partnership, Skills Development Scotland and Scottish Enterprise all have legal responsibilities to be part of the Community Planning Partnership through the Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015.

The other active partners are East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure Trust, Voluntary Action East Renfrewshire, Barrhead Housing and the Department for Work and Pensions.
