From Wednesday 4 September 2024, in East Renfrewshire parking fine charges, also known as a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN), will increase from £60 to £100, as per guidance issued by Scottish Ministers in February 2023. The is in line with charges applied in neighbouring Scottish local authorities.
In September 2022, the Scottish Government undertook a public consultation which considered the level of fines associated with PCNs. At the time of publishing this consultation Scottish Ministers didn't feel that it was appropriate to raise the levels due to the rising cost-of-living. Since that decision was made there have been increased calls from local authorities and other parties asking Scottish Ministers to review the charges as rates haven't increased in over 23 years.
Scottish Ministers have now revised the levels of the maximum charges that can be implemented for PCNs and from Wednesday 4 September 2024, the PCN charge payable in East Renfrewshire will increase to £100, reduced to £50 if payment received within 14 days of the date of the notice.
