Working at elections
Find out about working at an election and the roles available
To ensure elections run smoothly and efficiently we need staff to fill a number of roles.
Required Skills
You don't need any specific qualifications, but some work experience is helpful and you must meet the following requirements:
- be at least 18 years of age to work
- have a National Insurance Number
- have a valid email address
- have the right to work in the UK (proof of right to work will be required)
- work more than the normal working hours provided for by the working time directive
You can't work at an election if you're campaigning on behalf of a candidate or party, if you're nominated as a candidate or have a personal relationship with an elected member or candidate.

Polling Station - Polling Clerk
The role of the polling station staff is to ensure that voters are able to cast their vote in secret, free from influence and in a calm atmosphere.

Count Venue Enumerator
The purpose of the Verification/Count team is to open ballot boxes, ensure the contents agree with the Ballot Paper Accounts and then count the votes for each candidate in the election.
