Explore East Ren's hidden gems

We've launched a series of new videos showcasing some of the fantastic hidden gems in the area that are well worth exploring on a walk - a great source of inspiration for anyone looking for things to do locally over the summer holidays.

Funded by the UK Government's UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the project aims to encourage 'pride in place' amongst residents.

Building on a successful campaign in 2023, we've teamed up with walking expert Gillian Craig (@Gillian's Walks) who presents the videos and recommends a range of local beauty spots to explore within East Renfrewshire. The videos also highlight the great selection of local businesses that can be found nearby each walk and are complemented by a dedicated webpage with route maps: eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk/explore

Locations profiled in the new film clips include the Levern Walkway, Harelaw Dam, Greenbank Garden, Busby Glen, Eaglesham and Fereneze Braes. They join an existing series of videos covering Dams to Darnley, Whitelee Windfarm, Rouken Glen, the Craigie (Duncarnock Fort) and the Neilston Pad.

Councillor Danny Devlin, Convener for Environment and Housing, said: 'There are so many fantastic hidden gems in East Ren so why not get out for walk over the summer months and explore somewhere new. We're really spoiled for choice with a great selection of local shops and cafes to grab a bite to eat when you are out and about.'
