Each year we welcome many new British Citizens into our community. 

What is a British Citizenship Ceremony?

The Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002 requires all applicants, aged 18 or over, for naturalisation or registration as a British citizen to take a citizenship oath and pledge at a ceremony conducted by a Registrar.

Attending a citizenship ceremony is the final step in the process of becoming a British citizen. The ceremony is a formal occasion that welcomes those who wish to attain full citizenship of the United Kingdom.

What are the legal requirements?

All matters relating to application and qualification for British Citizenship are dealt with by the Home Office's, Immigration & Nationality branch in Liverpool.

How do book a Citizenship Ceremony ?

For new citizens who've received a Home Office invitation letter, please email registrars@eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk to arrange a Citizenship Ceremony.

Please note: Once we receive your email we'll book the next available ceremony for you. These are held every 4/6 weeks. We'll confirm the date of your ceremony by letter.

What documents do I need to bring to my citizenship ceremony?

• a home Office invitation letter 
• a form of Photographic ID i.e. Passport, Driver's Licence

If you don't bring along these documents your ceremony can't go ahead, and you'll be asked to re-schedule a new date.
