Walking at Whitelee

Walking is a great way to explore much of Whitelee, whether you're looking for a short and easy route, or a longer, more challenging route, there's something for everyone. The site features an extensive set of waymarkers, and every turbine is numbered both on the turbine itself, and on all of our maps and route cards.

From the main site entrance adjacent to Whitelee Visitor Centre, popular routes include Lochgoin Circuit, which is just over 8 miles in length, and Blackwood Hill viewpoint, which is just over 3.5 miles out and back.

Blackwood Hill also includes seating and a toposcope providing details of the panoramic views in all directions including Ailsa Craig, Arran and Ben Lomond.

Signage for all routes start at turbine 40.

Dog walkers

Dogs are welcome at Whitelee but owners are asked to keep their pets under control at all times and to follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code (SOAC) in relation to responsible dog walking.

Be aware if walking your dog on the Lochgoin Circuit that there is a livestock grazing area on the route with cattle grids on entering and exiting. Sheep graze freely in this area at most times of year, and dog owners should ensure their dogs are not able to disturb or worry livestock or wildlife.

Dog waste bags are available at main entrances and bins are provided. We ask that owners clear dog waste from roads, paths and facility areas including verges.

Commercial dog walkers are also welcome as long as the dogs are kept under control. Dogs running as a pack off the lead or causing concern or a nuisance won't be tolerated.
