Whitelee has 2 full time Countryside Rangers based at the cabin next to the visitor centre. The Whitelee Countryside Ranger Service is fully funded by community benefit from Scottish Power Renewables through the Whitelee Access Project, a partnership comprising the 3 local authorities (East Renfrewshire, South Lanarkshire and East Ayrshire), Scottish Power Renewables, Forestry and Land Scotland, and community representatives.

The Rangers work to promote responsible access within the windfarm, in line with the Scottish Outdoor Access Code and Whitelee Access Plan.

What the Countryside Rangers do

The Rangers carry out regular patrols of the windfarm on foot, bike and vehicle, monitoring the use of the site, liaising with land managers, and engaging with visitors to help them fully enjoy the area.

They are a source of information on windfarm biodiversity, local history, the best routes to take as well as access restrictions and other useful site knowledge.

The Rangers organise a varied programme of free events, learning sessions for schools to universities (both within the windfarm and as outreach), and act as expert guides for interest and uniformed groups and international visitors to the windfarm.
